Opera Mini For iPhone

The Opera Mini web browser has been available in the App Store for some time now and I’ve replaced Safari with it for the time being to try it out.

My first impressions is that it’s a little quicker and more usable than Safari.  However, the zoom function only has two levels – fully zoomed out or zoomed right in.  It’s pretty hard to read most web pages while in zoomed out mode and while in zoomed in mode you find yourself having to move the screen more view the content you’re interested in.

The tabbing in Opera Mini is superior to Apple’s Safari on the iPhone.  Being able to switch tabs is a simple process and can be done without leaving the page you are currently viewing.  I like the quick favourite preview links on the home page too, which is a feature I enjoy on my Mac’s Chrome browser.

Overall I’m really impressed, and if an update is released that improves the zooming functionality then it would permanently replace mobile Safari on my iPhone.
